Zeus Miner Blizzard Review

I purchased a Zeus Miner Blizzard 1.3Mh/s scrypt asic miner over a month ago and posted a handful of pictures of the Zeus Miner Blizzard in my previous article. In this article, I will give an overview of my experience of owning and running a Zeus Miner Blizzard for over a month.

For those who don’t know, the Zeus Miner Blizzard is a scrypt based asic miner developed by Zeus Integrated Systems Limited. Scrypt asic miners are used to mine scrypt based crypto currencies such as Litecoin and other alternative crypto-currencies (alt coins).

At the time of this writing, the Zeus Miner Blizzard is still offered for sale directly from Zeus Integrated Systems Limited as well as from multiple distributors. There are also a handful of companies that use chips and hardware manufactured by Zeus Integrated Systems Limited, re-brand the devices and sell them under a different name. Although most of these manufacturers will never explicitly say who the chip manufacturer is, the crypto mining community so still small enough that it is relatively easy to determine which manufactures are creating what chips. An example of this would be GAW Miners Fury, which is very similar to the Zeus Miner Blizzard. In the side by side comparison of the Zeus Miner Blizzard Vs GAW Miners Fury, both units appear to be exactly identical.

I pre-ordered the Zeus Miner Blizzard from one of the official distributors and shipping took about 1 week longer than expected, but I eventually got the unit as ordered. Once I received the unit, the first thing I noticed was that it did not come with an instruction manual. After doing some Google searching I was able to figure out how to get everything set up. For those who need help with the setup I created the Zeus Miner Blizzard setup instructions.

The Zeus Integrated Systems website originally offered a modified version of CGMiner for use with the Zeus Miner Blizzard, but many of users on the forums recommended BFGMiner instead. While many people reported seeing improvement when using the BFGMiner instead of CGMiner, I did not see that dramatic of a difference between the two. Since I already went through the trouble of setting up the BFGMiner port for ZeusMiner, I just kept that on my system and ran that with my Zeus Miner Blizzard for over the past month.

I have not had any problems with my Zeus Miner Blizzard and everything seems to be running smoothly over a month after purchasing it. Some people have complained of units failing or overheating while others have complained about unusually high amounts of hardware errors, but everything seems to be fine with my unit. I have not ventured into trying to overclock the chips or replacing the thermal paste, but I may try to do so in the future. The only disappointment that I have is that the Litecoin difficulty has increased so much that it will be impossible for me to get any return on my investment. That being said, the prices on the Zeus Miner Blizzard are constantly dropping so if you can find a cheap unit, or even a used one, it may be worth the investment.
