GAW Miners Falcon 27 Mh/s Scrypt Asic Miner –

The GAW Miners Falcon is a new asic miner that can be used to mine scrypt based crypto-currencies. Using specialized mining hardware like the scrypt based asics in the GAW Miners Falcon provides a more efficient way to mine scrypt based crypto-currencies than by mining via GPUs.

The GAW Miners Falcon is a new scrypt asic miner sold by GAW Miners. The description says that the chips used in the mining hardware are a “55nm GAW Miners dedicated ASIC Scrypt(QFN Design)”. Although it is never mentioned anywhere explicitly, most of the forums will note that the chips used are provided by ZeusMiner Integrated Systems. This would mean that they are the same chips used in the ZeusMiner Blizzard in our previous article.

In comparison to the ZeusMiner Blizzard, the packaging for the falcon was a bit nicer. Where the ZeusMiner Blizzard came in a generic brown cardboard box, the GAW Miners Falcon came in a nice white box with the GAW Miners logo imprinted on the top. The inside of the box had packaging foam that was cut to fit snugly around the unit, similar to how many high end GPUs are packaged.

The original picture on the GAW Miners site showed a generic black box, almost like a placeholder for what the Falcon should look like. What arrived was a red aluminum case with the GAW Miners logo printed on the top.

The front of the GAW Miners Falcon has three fans that are configured as exhaust fans that blow hot air out of the miner.

The back of the GAW Miners Falcon had an empty slot which was a bit different from the pictures the site, which show ATX power supply cables coming out. This means that the only way to hook up power to the unit would be to remove all of the screws from the top and open the case.

Once the case was open, you could see four blades of chips each attached to their individual heatsinks. Depending on the size of the power supply, it may be possible to enclose the power supply within the case, but it would be a tight fit.

Based on the specifications the GAW Miners Falcon was supposed to provide a scrypt hashrate of over 27Mh/s while using about ~1040 Watts of power. The screenshot below shows the CGMiner screen after running for about 24 hours:

So appearance-wise, the GAW Miners Falcon was not like the picture on their website, but the performance seems to be consistent with what was advertised.
